Soap is one of those products we tend to take for granted. At home, at work, at school, at restaurants, at the gym. Soap is usually just there. We wash our hands and we are on our way. It never occurred to me that a bar of soap could be a luxury in some parts of the world.
Soapbox is a company that produces a line of soaps, shampoos, conditioners, and lotions. For every product purchased, they donate a bar of soap to someone in need. Honestly, while I recognized the connection between hygiene and health, I wasn’t sure what impact a bar of soap could truly make.
Before looking at the problem, though, let’s look at the products! I am a soap and lotion lover. There’s something uplifting and refreshing about the something that smells clean. That being said, Soapbox products smell fantastic. Plus, they are free of parabens, petrochemicals, and silicone. I bought the shampoo & conditioner, bar soap, and lotion, and I pretty much love them all.
But how can a bar of soap make a difference in someone’s life?
We all learned when we were kids that we should wash our hands (with soap!) before we eat and after we use the bathroom. But did you know that millions of young children die each year from diarrhea and respiratory infections? You know what can help prevent the spread of these two childhood killers? You guessed it: SOAP and WATER. For many people, basic needs like food and shelter are not guaranteed. If you had to choose between food for your kids or a bar of soap, I think we’d all choose food. That is why donating soap is so impactful.
I also appreciate that Soapbox provides specific information on how my purchase is helping others. On the back of every Soapbox product is a Hope Code. Go to the Soapbox website and enter that code to see where and how your purchase is impacting another life.
Through Soapbox’s work, I am more aware of how a simple bar of soap can significantly impact someone’s life. Indeed, soap is a luxury for many people. Soapbox allows us, the consumers, to be clean, smell great, and possibly save a life. Sounds like a good deal to me.
