When I first started looking for social good companies, Hand in Hand Soap was one of the first brands I came across. They have been on my radar for awhile now. I can honestly say that I have tried every product and every scent in their product line. And I love everything which is why I consistently go back over and over again.
Right now, Hand in Hand Soap sells soaps, body lotions, and sugar scrubs, which are sustainable, vegan, and palm oil free. (In you’re wondering why palm oil free is important, check this out). All of their products are available in their four signature scents: Cactus Blossom, Lavender, Citrus Grove, and Sea Salt, which is a fresh mint and eucalyptus scent. I’m personally a huge fan of their sugar scrub. And I have no idea what a Cactus Bloom should smell like, but I would happily stay locked up in a room if it had their Cactus Bloom scent pumped in there 24/7. I’m currently using their Sea Salt collection. It’s so minty, I honestly feel 50% more awake after using it!
Clean Hands for Haiti
Here’s the icing on the cake. For every product sold, Hand in Hand donates a bar of soap to a child in need. To date, they have donated more than 1 million bars of soap. As I previously mentioned in my Soapbox post, hand soap is so vital in preventing water borne illnesses that kill millions of children each year. Clean hands save lives!
Their donations primarily focus on Haiti, which is currently the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. According to the World Health Organization, around 65% of Haitians live below the national poverty line. The child mortality rate (under 5) for Haiti is 71.1 deaths for every 1,000 live births. In comparison, the US’s child mortality rate is 6.6 deaths for every 1,000 live births. In addition, Haiti suffers from high unemployment, lack of sanitation, high illiteracy rates, natural disasters, severe deforestation, and a long history of exploitation, slavery, and colonialism.
I kind of love that Hand in Hand focuses their help on a country that has suffered and endured so much. In addition to their soap donations, they are funding clean water projects in Haiti. Because what goes better with soap than clean water? The founders also travel to Haiti to oversee the donations and see their work in action.
It’s hard not to love a company that has so much heart.
