Hello! Welcome to my blog, Shop Social Good!
The genesis of this blog came about while I was Christmas shopping last year. I was bored of seeing the same old gift ideas, from the same old brands. Everything seemed so… uninspired and boring. It felt like I was just handing my money over to the same companies over and over again. Not only that, but in the back of my mind, I wondered… were these products ethically made? Was this made by just another corporate conglomerate that only cared about their bottom line? I wondered if it were possible to buy the things I wanted to buy and feel good about my purchase.
So, I decided that I would take a departure from the usual mall fare and started looking specifically for companies and products that give back. And guess what? I found many interesting companies selling amazing products that gave back in the process! The problem was that these companies, most of them pretty small, aren’t exactly easy to find online. You kind of need to know what you’re looking for. That’s when my idea for Shop Social Good came to life.
I’ve dubbed 2018 as “My Year of Shopping for Good” and this blog will chronicle my year of finding amazing products from companies that have built social good into their mission. This comes in many forms: one for one, fair trade, proceeds going towards a cause, employment and training for underserved populations, and more.
